Enjoying Today

Today was one of those productive days, but before I get into it I really want to say thank you for the responses to last night's gardening post!  I responded in the comments section, but will plan on doing the hanging baskets, probably some long planters w/ herbs, and some pots--all of which can be moved dependent on the sun too.  I'm not sure where I could find a barrel around here honestly, but I do love that idea (the only nearby stores are Wal-Mart and Lowe's--but maybe Lowe's would have one?!)....if anything cause I'd love to do potatoes.  I spent 2-3 hours this afternoon pulling the greenery out of the bed, but have about 6 feet still to go (it was pretty chilly in the shade!).  Will try to plant some (shade tolerant) wildflower seed I got yesterday and probably some corn in that bed.

All of today felt like a fulfilling project, so I'm looking forward to doing a little blogging now, taking my evening shower, and then starting on magazine stack #2 before kenneling the girls and heading to bed.  This morning I checked in with my neighbor gal to see if she wanted to accompany me on errands to our nearby town.  There were several things I've been meaning to do in the last few weeks but had yet to cross off the list....so today was the day.  Dropped plastic bags for recycling, got dog bones, recycled two broken cell phones to AT&T, returned a library book, picked out a couple accessories, got a basketful of groceries, scheduled my referral appointment, and then helped the neighbor gal find sandpaper, paint, and hardware for a dresser she's refinishing.  I then spent the afteroon on a run, playing with the dogs in an empty field, walking Roxi, starting dinner in the crock pot, and then weeding the flower bed.  Pretty productive day!

The nice thing is that since I started blogging regularly again and maybe as I'm acclimating more to being here, I feel that I'm really enjoying the little moments again.  It's definitely a nice feeling to regain.  Noticing the birds outside, the smiles on my dogs faces, the dirt on my hands, and remembering to smile, to feel, to enjoy.  It's a good place to be...let's hope I can hang onto these moments.....

your plan for your garden sounds perfect! a big barrel would be fun, but you're right- not always so easily accessible :)

I know you will enjoy making that space into a garden that is just right for you and your circumstances :) As for the barrels, our farming/gardening stores (specifically the UFA, a farmer's co-op store)carry whiskey barrels that have been cut in half and burned out (so as to eliminate the possibility of making 'screech') which people love to use around here for large, practical and frugal planters - they cost about $20 each and last seemingly forever if you drill drainage holes in the bottom. But these might be bigger things than what is practical in your case, for sure... Happy planting!

Yesterday sounded like a wonderful day :) I'm glad that you're able to do some of the things that you enjoy-- I think it's great you're trying to do some gardening. One of my goals someday is to make a little garden where our pool used to go. Not sure if we're going to use the space anymore, but it's right in the open sunshine. Would be great for lots of veggies and herbs. :)

It's fun noticing the small things huh? :) Love that feeling of being more grounded!

Hugs to you cousin! Love you sooo much
