DOG DAYS OF SUMMER: It's been quite the dog weekend! We took Anna and Roxi to the river again yesterday with another couple and their 9 month old English Lab, Molly. The three dogs get along really well....which is great cause we'll be dog-sitting for Molly here at our house for almost a week starting on Weds. Hopefully the girls will all get lots of playtime together!
Last night and today however we had four other dogs in our care! Our neighbors/friends down the way were headed out of town for the night so we'd already agreed to check in on and let out their two dogs: a lab/retriever mutt and a chihuahua. Not too difficult to do since we already know their dogs and it just meant heading over there every 2-3 hours to let the dogs out and make sure they hadn't gotten into anything. BUT we also ended up with the next door neighbor's two little dogs in our backyard too.
Our neighbors really shouldn't be dog owners....but I won't get into all the reasons why. Let's just say they have a history of lacking common sense with dogs and demonstrated it again today. Apparently they were sleeping in til 1pm and didn't hear their dogs whining for water and shade in the 100 degree weather....nor my attempts to ring their doorbell three times. SO their dogs were fed, watered, and loved on in our home for a bit and then provided water and shade on our back patio until they finally started looking for them....
Beyond all the crazy dogs however, today's a day of BIRTHdays! A good friend of the hub's from high school had her baby this morning--a little girl! So I finally sat down and ordered a baby gift for them---I had been debating on whether to get the mobile like another friend had suggested or to order items to help with cloth diapering since the registry also had those items on there. After talking to the hub, I ordered the cloth diapering items and for the first time ever actually felt like I truly supported the baby gift I was sending to someone! Yea for mamas making earthy choices!
And today is also the birthday of a good friend of mine from college. AND the birthday of my oldest brother's wife. AND it's Granny's 99th birthday too! Woo---a day of celebrations for many amazing women! We're getting so excited for Granny and Mom to get down here in just over a week---and am so glad to provide an extended birthday celebration for her too!
Beyond dogs and birthdays, the rest of the weekend has been pretty standard. Grocery shopping, cleaning, laundry, Netflix movies and we watched the A-Team at the cheap movie theatre here on the installation, yesterday's trip to the river. We did make some delicious sticky buns this morning with the breadmaker and I picked up a priority box to finally get the clothes mailed off to my gal back in Oregon. But mainly today we've just been trying to keep cool---the heat index is 105, the AC is pumping, the blinds have all been drawn, and its still that uncomfortably sticky hot in every room in our house.....it might be early and slightly sad....but I'm already dreaming of winter. ;)
