A few things that I wanted to share today, since I'm just on a brief work break:
This morning I completed the newest ethics training session and some of the pieces of the session seemed to me to be applicable to how we all approach our daily lives. Whether through our treatment of the planet or each other, every day and with every decision we are making some sort of ethical decision. Some of the things that most stuck out to me are the following (all of which should be attributed to Serco International and their training department):
- Ethics has many facets. It's about your conscience and living up to it, treating people with respect, not causing unnecessary harm, doing only what you would willingly have done to you, following appropriate values that determine your duties and responsibilities.
- (People) sometimes don't recognize ethical conflicts because of time constraints, defense mechanisms, competitive pressures, or bad habits. They have to learn to overcome misguided ideas or habits so they can recognize ethical dilemmas.
- Reasoning should always have a central role.
- Ethics is the study of what is good and right for people. It asks the question, "How should I act, especially when my actions directly or indirectly affect others?"
- ...resolving the situation would require more than just staying within legal guidelines.
Additionally, I thought these were some great articles that showed up on Yahoo News this morning:
